It's a celebration: I still feel like I'm 25
A classic 90s-era, mid-30s denial of reality has finally set in, IRCB hits 400 episodes, and I'm planning to move off of Substack.
This is unfortunately not the promised Just Read Comics roadmap post, but a completely different update about an IRCB milestone, moving off of Substack, and a few things ruminating in the back of my mind about Just Read Comics.
Let’s dig in.
IRCB Hits 400 Episodes
This week, I Read Comic Books hits 400 (official) episodes1 and I made the joke in the episode that in my head, it still feels like I’m 25, excited to talk comic books with my (then) acquaintances who also like comic books. Instead, it’s 2024, and we’re at a milesone very not many other shows can say they’ve reached.
Every year I reflect on this in our annual anniversary episode (which we, of course, usually refer to as our “Annual” episode because it’s comics and that’s a whole thing) and it’s always wild to think I’ve been recording this show with an ever-growing cast of friends and my dedicated pal/editor, Zander, since 2015.
I think after 8 years of almost perfectly consistent delivery of weekly episodes of IRCB, I have to finally admit that maybe it’s me that keeps this thing going, not some invisible hand or spirit. I think that that’s a good thing.
But the episode this week is a lot of comic book talk and some reflection on the last year of IRCB. I think we had some really good discussion and goofs, and, as I will proudly say, we gave some pretty solid comic reviews & recommendations. You can check it out anywhere you find podcasts.
Moving off of Substack
You may have hear from Platformer or from my pal Jeff at Clicked, but it seems that Substack seems to have no qualms with allowing Nazis to propagate their message here and, while I’m slow to adapt to this news, I’m just not cool with that. I’ll miss the nice editor here at Substack, but that’s a small price to pay to not be part a Nazi-friendly machine.
So, in the next week or so I’ll be moving things from Substack to either Ghost or Buttondown. Chances are paid subscriptions are going to go away (thank you to the two folks who were chipping in!), but I expect to keep to a 2-3 posts a month schedule. More to come on that.

A dev I know over at the IRCB Discord passed this my way and I’m interested to see if/how I can tap into it for Just Read Comics:
Looks like an Open API for comic book data. I can dig on that.
